Miniature Goats

Miniature goats make the perfect low-cost, low-maintenance, loveable, small farm pets. They are very affectionate, curious, adorably playful, surprisingly nimble and agile even after a whole day of chewing grass and filling their bellies. They can be taught tricks very easily, they can be walked on a leash, and climb on just about anything (including you!).

Miniature goats require little feed, can be kept in a small yard and do not require fancy housing. In fact, ours are free to roam all over the property all day long, and retire to their pen at night. When it gets very cold (colder than minus 10 Celsius), they prefer to roam free inside the barn, but they grow a thick coat of fur warm enough to protect them from the cold.

Our miniature goats are Pygmy goats (originally from West and Central Africa), which in general measure between 16 and 22 inches at the withers and weigh 35 pounds on average.

Baby goats are called kids…and let me tell you: to see one of those kids is to want to adopt it right away!

Jinny
We got Jinny when she was 2 months old. She had been held in human arms from birth and she is incredibly interested in humans and affectionate towards us. She follows us everywhere, welcomes us when we come back home, will lie down and sleep on our knees if we let her.

Voodoo
Voodoo follows Jinny or Daisy (our Rottweiler) everywhere. We got her when she was 2 months old also. We found out when we got there that the farm where she was born dehorns all their goats. While we do not encourage this practice, we did fall in love with her and brought her home one week after getting Jinny. Voodoo is shier than Jinny, but she will do all kinds of tricks for a few grain pellets!

We plan to acquire a few more friendly female goats and have babies to offer sometime soon.
